Day 39

CPL Test flight today. Not my prettiest flight but the examiner was satisfied that I am a safe pilot, can navigate and perform the required maneuvers and drills proficiently.

Therefore I have been awarded a pass, which also counts as a multi-engine piston class rating. So now I can fly for hire or reward, a single or light twin-engined piston aircraft.

And now for some champagne....

Day 38

Hooray. Finally today the weather was good enough for my '170A' flight. Basically a bit of everything, in simulated exam conditions.

The navigation was to a a disused airfield called Culmhead in the middle of nowhere (about 8 miles south of Taunton actually). Then some circuits at Dunkeswell before a diversion to Tisbury (12 miles west of Salisbury). Then under the screens for 20 minutes and finally general handling plus an engine fire (simulated).

Two hours of the above is exhausting. The flight was deemed a success, and so I have been cleared to do it for real next week. Due to the bank holiday the test will be on Tuesday afternoon. Will let you know....
